Bike to University - promoting sustainable locomotion

Project B1-26

Compared to other university towns, bicycle use in Fribourg is considerably underdeveloped. By means of a large contest to promote cycling and sustainable mobility at the University of Fribourg, this project aims to change this. Cycling as a sustainable means of transport for students and university employees has considerable potential to reduce both overcrowding of public transport and motorized transport. Therefore, the student association "Nachhaltige Entwicklung Universität Freibung, NEUF" developed the present project: In order to promote sustainable mobility at the University of Fribourg, the association NEUF will organize a contest, which is open to all members of the University of Fribourg. The contest aims at uniting participants in groups, which will gather points for their commutes by bicycle. This contest shall comprise prize incentives, sourced from sponsors, which will be distributed to the most avid cyclist teams as well as randomly amongst all participants. Furthermore, the project will organize bicycle maintenance and repair workshops and will extend the existing network of student run bicycle repair facilities. The experiences of the project shall thereafter be made available to the university community and will allow the capacities of the bicycle infrastructures in Fribourg.
